Chrysalïd, the heavy metal band from Northern England, kicks off their album with "Overture," featuring Zak Stevens and Fabrichio Rocha.

The no-nonsense "Eternal Flame" follows, with Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens delivering death-defying screams and an anthemic, fist-pumping feel. Next is "Far Beyond The Sun" with Henning Basse, a metalhead’s delight with powerful riffs and mighty vocals. "Into The Night" slows the mood down, shrouded in melancholy, and then builds evocatively with lingering King Diamond-esque vocals.

 

"The King" featuring Craig Carns from Tailgunner, is a favorite. Its deep and brutal chorus makes it a live anthem, leaving a lasting impression and ensuring fans will be shredding their neck muscles. It's hellishly addictive and delivers a message of being aware of traitors who spread their poison behind your back, but as we all know, in the end, they’ll get what they deserve, adds the band.

The title track "Breaking The Chains" is a powerhouse of classic heavy metal elements, a full-on festival of pumped fist throwing, horns in the air delirium ensues, epic and intense, another you will keep returning to. The album continues its assault on the senses with "Blackstar" and the glorious "War of Illusion," which advances into the room with thunder and would make Sabaton proud to have this song in their repertoire.

The pace is slowed down a bit with "Another Day," while still retaining that power, even though it is at a much gentler pace, to begin with. It turns into a headbangers delight as it builds into an anthem of raised horns. The legend that is Fabio Lione not only features in "War of Illusions," he delivers another spellbinding appearance on "My Way Home." The majesty and serenity of "Under The Thumb" will leave you open-jawed with its spine-tingling opening. Its feelings wash into your soul as you are then taken to the album's end with "The End of Chapter II."

 

But no, this isn't the finale— a bonus on this platter arrives with a cover of King Diamond's "Sleepless Nights," a stellar finish to an awesome work of pure ear candy.

This lineup of seasoned musicians delivers everything from shredding solos to powerful, melodic vocals. A must for all true metal fans!
