Eddie  & The Wolves interview 05/07/24

MM: Can you tell us about your Band and who are your biggest influences

Eddie and The Wolves started as a trio because I wanted to do some gigs, but it didn’t get serious until Char joined during lockdown. That's when we really started going for it, recording our first album. Char had awful stage fright initially, but after a couple of live streams and gigs towards the end of lockdown, she realized how much she enjoyed it. For me, performing with my wife was incredibly satisfying.

  • The band consists of:

  • - **Vocals, Guitar & Synths**: Edd Saffell

  • - **Vocals, Percussion & Synths**: Char Saffell

  • - **Drums**: Ben Gains

  • - **Bass Guitar**: Joe Griffith

  • - **Guitars**: Cain Paisley

  • Our musical style is rooted in rock, but we mix influences from the '80s, blues, and modern sounds into a fusion sauce that makes our sound unique.

  • Our favorite bands and biggest influences include Biffy Clyro, Tash Sultana, Slipknot, Metallica, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Led Zeppelin

MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from

  • sometimes I hear a word or phrase or I’m jamming in my room and something just happens, it’s very difficult to explain the creative process because it just sort of happens, and in that moment I can’t have any distractions it’s like being cold and trying to warm yourself up, It’s got to happen right now or you’ll always be cold. I have a home studio that’s setup always ready to press record when the moment strikes, guitars and bass and vocal mics are all plugged in ready to go, I love to be immediate with my writing.

MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?

  • I think we all have different favourites for reasons like, we like to listen to that one, or we like to play that one live or whatever, but each song is really important to me for different reasons. Char lost a childhood friend recently and our song “Through It All” which is a dedication to our best friends became so bittersweet and emotional to play live. We are bound to our music on so many different levels.

MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2024

  • we’ve got some great gigs lined up this year, you can find all the dates we’re doing on our website, we’re really excited for Rockmageddon in December, that Joe (bassist) and I are putting on in December, at our local band hangout and super cool rock venue The Hairy Dog. With some amazing bands, The Howling Tides and Kim Jennet, aswell as a few other bands we’ve met along the way.

MM: What can we expect from you guys live

  • we’ve been working really hard on making our live concerts a “Show”, we’ve always got on stage and given our all and played our songs, but over the last year we’ve been making constant tweaks and changes to things, reviewing video footage of each gig and I can honestly say there is a passion at each gig that I hope will resonate with everyone stood watching.

MM: What do you like best and worst about touring

  • The lifestyle is great, it’s like a holiday, you and your mates climbing in a tiny space to travel around the country playing rock n roll, meeting fans and seeing new places. The worst thing is driving back from Scotland to Derby hungover. I had to stop the car 8 times on the way home due to feeling sick and having a panic attack. A 6-hour drive took us 8 or 9 hours because of me being a liability.

MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies

  • There are a few bands we love playing with, and a few we haven’t got to play with that I know would be awesome, I loved so much doing a couple of shows with Blackwater Conspiracy & These Wicked Rivers a couple of years ago, we were all mates and had a great time taking the piss out of each other and helping each other out etc. I’d love to play with Kelsey Karter & The Heroines as the Guitarist & Bassist have been close mates of mine for years. We had great laugh with Asomvel & Red Wine Ride when we supported them at the hairy dog on their last tour, they were such funny lads, the next day my stomach hurt from laughing so much and they were so hot live my neck hurt from head banging!

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why

  • We are huge fans of Download festival. So many huge legacy bands play there, I remember one year going up by myself and seeing Sound garden and then black sabbath I can’t believe we won’t get to see legends like Chris Cornell and Ozzy live again.

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far

  • the majority of us are full time musicians. Whilst that is a difficult life in today’s society we have accomplished the ability to make money doing what we love. Everything else is a bonus.

MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time

This is the most difficult question of all.

Eddie - Opposites, Biffy Clyro

Char - Flow State, Tash Sultana

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?

  • I was 12 or 13 and me and my 2 mates played Seven Nation Army at the schools talent show, we practiced every lunch time for the whole school year to play this one show. I loved it, I loved hanging out with the lads playing music and I loved being “backstage” getting ready for the “gig”. We created such a lifelong friendship from that band, The guitarist of that band was the best man at our wedding and I was best man for his and char and I even sang his first dance.

MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person

  • African American jazz and blues musicians. There’s an incredible family tree of music that you don’t have to look to deep to find that connects Robert Johnson to Metallica and beyond. Without their contributions we would have the world of music we have today.

MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?

  • Growth & Opportunity. Connecting with people, meeting new fans and bands that we can share stages with.

MM: If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?

  • we’ve been toying with this idea at the minute. There’s an amazing journey song we all are obsessing with, there’s a famous cover by Daughtry & Lizzy hale. So I’ll let you work it out for yourself. I think we might release our own version at some point early next year.

MM:If there was a made up song about yourself what would it be called

  • All of our songs are about us and made up haha, but for the purpose of the question probably “Metal Help”

MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band

  • I can’t think of anything that doesn’t come off as a cheesy elevator pitch on dragons den or something. We’re relentless. I’m always going to be doing this, I’ve invested half my life into writing and performing. I have nothing else. You love rock, you want to be part of something, we can give you that. We’re just small enough that if you message us, we will talk. When we released our single about our own mental health struggles “Not The Fix” last year we urged fans if they’re struggling to reach out if they wanted a connection. We still mean that. We want to throw a party for everyone who never got invited. Everyone’s welcome.

MM: Four words to describe Eddie & The Wolves

  • Genre fluid riff lords.

MM:Do you have any final words for your fans and our readers

  • fantastic reading everyone, you’ve done a great job. If you’d like to do some listening now, log on to your local music distributor and put some Eddie & The Wolves into your ear. Then if you’re not fully satisfied with your sense experience, book a ticket to one of our shows where you can do some listening, looking, smelling and if you’re extra close to the action, maybe some tasting. (Touching extremely prohibited).

Thanks. Byeeeeeeee.
